But morally this position is not only unacceptable to us but abhorrent and disgusting Even the modern commons man , with all his advanced ideas about love cannot support or bonnyify this positionWe meet Cathy early in the novel when she is still a small girl . There is some thing vehement and untamable about her . This element in her nature is seen in the appearance in which , at a slight provocation , she shakes the bodge Hareton violently , rebukes Nelly , asking her to get out of the room , and so gives a blow to Edgar with whom otherwise she is very friendly . It is by all odds this trait of her nature that is responsible for the affinity between her and Heathcliffe as both shares the wild almost savage and untamable element constituent(a) in them .
