Franz Kafka

Franz Kafka is one of the most influential fiction writers of the early twentieth century. Kafka is a novelist and writer of short stories, whose works, only after his death, came to be regarded as one of the major achievements of 20th century literature. He was born to middle class German speaking parents in Prague, Bohemia. His father was described as a huge, selfish, overbearing man of affairs and by Kafka himself as a true Kafka in strength, health, appetite, speciousness of voice, eloquence, self-satisfaction, worldly dominance, endurance, presence of mind, [and] knowledge of human nature. Franz was the firstborn of six children. He had two younger brothers: Georg and Heinrich, who died at the ages of xv months and six months, respectively, before Franz was seven; and three younger sisters, Gabriele (Elli) (18891941), Valerie (Valli) (18901942), and Ottilie (Ottla) (18921943). Franzs descent with his father was severely troubled as explained in the letter to His Father in which he complained of being profoundly modify by his fathers authoritative and demanding character. Kafka grew up in an halo of familial tensions and social rejection that he experienced as a piece of Pragues Jewish minority. His attitude to his Jewish heritage was ambivalent.

I have hardly anything in common with myself and should stand very quietly in a corner, heart that I can breathe.\ Kafka was educated at the German field of study and Civic Elementary School and the German National humanistic Gymnasium. In 1901 he entered Ferdinand-Karls University, where he studied law and original a doctorate in 1906.
