This report presents an overview of Leadership theories over time and its relevancy to the study of Management and Leadership in organizations.
The report begins with a review of drawing cardship theories and tracks their evolution over the past 70 years from the early trait theories through to behavioural theories, situational leadership, happening theory and on to transactional and transformational leadership. Each of these offers some insights into the qualities of successful leaders, but there has been a shift in focus from the generic characteristics and behaviours of the individual to a recognition of the importance of responding to different situations and contexts and the leaders role in relation to followers.
The report then goes on to the more modern approaches to Leadership and address some of the uncouth leadership issues of our times.
The report concludes with the nonion that due to a sum up of factors, there may not be One scoop out Way to lead. The changing nature of work and society, it is argued, may entreat new approaches that encourage a more collective and emerging view of leadership and leadership development, and of sharing the role of leader more widely within organisations.






Definition of Leadership
Broadly defined, leadership is the ability to influence a group of commonwealth, and leading them to the learning of a common goal. A leader is generally somebody with authority and confidence, and the ability to motivate the group and in felon inspire trust and look upon.
