I agree with Aquinas ideas about evil. God does not create evil. Humans have free will, and through their choices, homo themselves bring about evil. I also agree that it is an absence of good. Where in that respect is not good, there has to be evil. If someone is evil, they ar clearly not good, and are lacking the attributes to make them good. Everything people do in life should be for the greater good. It can be something big, or something as simple as on the button holding the door for someone and being helpful. Therefore, evil, the opposite, would be when love or evil doesnt happen.



In regards to his quote, Good can exist without evil; whereas evil cannot exist without good, I calculate he is trying to say that for there to be evil, there has to be some sort of good to torment or do wrong against. Someone does evil against something pure or someone good. If there was no good, how could there be evil? villainy is when goodness doesnt happen. So, if there is no goodness to not happen, evil cannot exist. However, there is always some bounce of good in the world. Therefore, good can exist without evil. Evil is derived from good.
